The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of the district, in collaboration with Tu Thao Export Straw Mushroom Food Processing Co., Ltd., organized the implementation of a production linkage for MD2 pineapple cultivation and straw mushroom cultivation in greenhouses. The event was attended by Mr. Võ Minh Quân, Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, and Mr. Nguyễn Quang Trung, Director of Tu Thao Export Straw Mushroom Food Processing Co., Ltd.
According to the report, the MD2 pineapple variety is quite suitable for the Mỹ Tú region due to its good adaptability to the local soil conditions. Currently, the cost of an MD2 pineapple seedling is 3,500 VND per plant, and one hectare can accommodate 50,000 plants. After 6 months of planting, each plant will produce 4 to 5 shoots. The company will buy back each shoot for 2,000 VND. The first harvest will take 16 months, while the second harvest will take about 12 months. Each fruit weighs between 1.2-2kg, and the company buys the fruit at 5,500 VND per kilogram. On average, one hectare will yield 60 tons of fruit. From the second harvest onward, farmers will obtain new shoots from the parent plants, significantly reducing costs. It is estimated that the investment cost for one hectare is around 242.5 million VND, with a total income of 330 million VND after harvesting, resulting in a profit of 87.5 million VND per hectare.

For straw mushrooms cultivated in greenhouses, there is currently a high demand in the market. The company will sign a purchase contract if the product quality meets clean standards and the daily quantity is 300kg or more. The guaranteed purchase price will be 10,000 VND per kilogram, which is higher than the market price.

Mr. Võ Minh Quân stated that the MD2 pineapple variety is a new crop but offers high productivity and stable prices. It is highly suitable for the soil conditions in Mỹ Tú district. He recommended that the leaders of communes, townships, and associations introduce this crop to agricultural cooperatives and groups and encourage them to sign contracts with the company for guaranteed purchasing. The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (NN\&PTNT) will propose that the district People’s Committee implement policies to support farmers in transitioning to this crop, aiming for higher economic efficiency.

Tu Thao Export Straw Mushroom Food Processing Co., Ltd. has also signed a memorandum of understanding with local associations, promising to provide technical support and establish long-term cooperation with the local community.
