Tu Thao Export Mushroom Processing Enterprise, Sóc Trăng, achieved a turnover of 374.2 thousand USD in October 2006, marking a 39.5% increase and surpassing the Mekong Export Food Processing Joint Stock Company to become the largest exporter of straw mushrooms in Vietnam.
According to data from the General Department of Customs, the export turnover of vegetables and fruits nationwide in October 2006 reached 19.3 million USD, a 22.14% decrease compared to September 2006 but a 10.6% increase compared to October 2005. However, exports of certain vegetables like straw mushrooms, cassava, cucumbers, etc., saw a significant increase compared to September 2006.
Among these, straw mushrooms remained the most exported vegetable in Vietnam, with a turnover of 2.5 million USD in October 2006, a 0.8% increase compared to September 2006.
The number of Vietnamese companies exporting straw mushrooms has remained relatively stable, with slight fluctuations. In October 2006, there were 23 companies involved in straw mushroom exports, one less than in September 2006 but one more than in August 2006.
Leading the list of straw mushroom exporters in Vietnam in October 2006 was Tu Thao Export Mushroom Processing Enterprise, Soc Trang, with a turnover of 374.2 thousand USD, marking a 39.5% increase. The primary reason for this surge was the sharp rise in exports to Italy, the company’s main market, which reached a turnover of 319.6 thousand USD, a 44% increase compared to September 2006.
In contrast, the export of straw mushrooms by the Mekong Export Food Processing Joint Stock Company, which had been the top exporter of straw mushrooms in Vietnam in September 2006, declined in October 2006. The company’s turnover for this product in October was only 298 thousand USD, a 29% decrease compared to September 2006. The company’s primary export markets were the US, Australia, the UK, and Ireland. Exports to the US, the company’s largest market, decreased to 217.4 thousand USD, a 36% drop compared to September 2006.
Notably, the export turnover of straw mushrooms by Trần Minh Agricultural Product Processing Export Enterprise surged in October 2006, reaching 289.5 thousand USD, a 78% increase compared to September 2006. The main export markets for the company’s products were the United States, Taiwan, and Italy.
